A total of 25 babies were born on Christmas Day at Iganga Main Hospital, with 11 male and 14 female newborns.
Hospital authorities reported that 20 of the deliveries were normal births, while the remaining five were via cesarean section.
By presstime, most mothers who had delivered normally had been discharged to return home and celebrate Christmas with their families.
Dr. Asuman Mulunda, in charge of the maternity ward, urged mothers to always give birth in health facilities to avoid complications such as excessive bleeding that can lead to maternal deaths.
“Most women have a tendency to give birth under the care of traditional birth attendants, which has contributed to the high number of deaths during delivery,” Dr Mulunda said.
He emphasized that delivering in a health facility provides access to skilled care, reduces risks for both mother and baby, and improves overall maternal and neonatal outcomes.
